Why Are There Streaks on the Surface?

How to Get the Best Results

For the best shine, wipe your surfaces the same way you would with a paper towel and window cleaner. One quick pass is often not enough — especially on mirrors or stainless steel.

For finicky surfaces like mirrors, follow the 3‑Times Rule:

Wipe the surface three times,  in gentle circles followed by one last straight line. This ensures every bit of residue, dust, or moisture is removed for a crystal‑clear finish.

First‑Time Use

Before using your cloth for the first time, give it a quick rinse with water only to remove any light factory residue. This helps the cloth perform at its best right from the start.

If You’re Seeing Streaks

If it’s not your first time using the cloth, streaks usually mean one of two things:

  1. The cloth needs to be washed, or
  2. Your water quality is causing the streaks, not the cloth.

Some tap water contains minerals, chlorine, or impurities that dry on the surface and leave marks. This is especially common in:

  • Rural areas
  • Campgrounds
  • Homes with well water
  • Areas with heavily chlorinated water

If the water isn’t clean enough to drink, it may not be clean enough to dry streak‑free.

For Best Results

  • Use distilled or bottled water to dip or rinse your cloth.
  • If you must wash the cloth in your tap water, rinse it afterward in a bowl of bottled water before wiping.
  • Mineral‑heavy or chlorinated water can leave residue, so a clean‑water rinse makes a noticeable difference.
  • Always wet and wring out your cloth well before wiping.

A Note on Stainless Steel

Some stainless steel surfaces hold onto water droplets. If this happens, simply dry the surface with a soft cloth after wiping to prevent streaks.

Other Common Causes of Streaks

You may have your cloth too wet, or you may not be wiping the entire surface thoroughly. Make sure the cloth is well‑wrung and that you cover the whole area with steady, even passes.

And remember — for the clearest, streak‑free finish, always follow the 3‑Times Rule.

Can I use my cloth without water? Absolutely. For light dusting, touching up mirrors, stainless steel, or quick surface wipes, using the cloth dry works perfectly — it lifts dust and fingerprints with ease.

For deeper cleaning, you can also use your Howie Cloth slightly damp, which activates even more cleaning power without needing too much water and of course without sprays or chemicals.

Why are there water spots on the Surface?  Most of the times the water spots will still dry streak free, if they don’t then you are not wringing out the cloth well enough.  New cloths take a bit to soften up, to help you wring them out easier.  Some customers say it works even better after a few uses!

Can I use this cloth on my laptop and electronics?  You should always follow manufactures recommendations for electronics.  Touch screens laptops, have special cleaners for the touch screen.  Many customers say they use it on all their  even touch screen laptops, but still use the special cleaner for touch screen in between.  Never use water with electricity, always unplug appliance first.  Use care instructions recommended by manufacture.

Can The Amazing Howie Cloth Scratch Surfaces?  The cloth will not scratch any surface, but care in use of the cloth with a substance that may be absorbed into the cloth may scratch surface.  Always use care and control.  Example:     If you are picking up glass on a surface, the glass will scratch the surface it is on.   Some Dust on a vehicle can scratch the surface, use the cloth for polishing after removing dirt.

Will The Amazing Howie Cloth Leave Lint Behind?  Never the cloth is incapable of leaving lint behind, if you have lint, the lint came from another surface the cloth has attracted to the cloth.  If you wash your cloth with other clothing it will attract the lint to the cloth.  To try and fix your cloth after this happening, boil on the stove for 5 minutes in water.  If this doesn’t fix the cloth you may need to replace it.
